Prime Minister Ehud Olmert at his home hosted Druze community leaders, including Sheikh Muafakh Tarif, judges, IDF, Israel Police and Israel Prison Service officers, local council heads and public figures on the occasion of the festival of Nabi Shueib (Jethro).
Prime Minister Olmert and Interior Minister Ronnie Bar-On briefed the Druze leaders on the Government’s plans for dealing with their communities and closing the gaps between Druze and Jewish communities: “I would like to tell you all that we are on the right track; however, there is still much to do in order to reduce the gaps between the Druze and Jewish populations in the State of Israel.
The Government has decided to allocate NIS 447 million in the framework of a multi-year plan for dealing with Druze communities and the Druze population. We want to do justice and to create true equality between the populations as the Druze community deserves.
We will continue on the path of deeds and actions, and not that of empty slogans and promises. I wish all of you a joyous festival and may we all continue to live here together and to see security, peace and tranquility.”
