Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, this evening visited the IDF Samaria Brigade in order to light the first Hanukkah candle with soldiers serving in Judea and Samaria. He was accompanied by – inter alia – Minister Ruhama Avraham-Balila, Deputy Defense Minister Matan Vilnai, IDF Chief-of-Staff Lt.-Gen. Gaby Ashkenazi and GOC Central Command Maj.-Gen. Gadi Shamni. Prime Minister Olmert said: “Last week, when I was in Annapolis, I thought about you more than once. They told me that it was relatively quiet in Judea and Samaria. While this seems almost like an ideal reality to those who are far away, I tried to explain to them that this not a coincidence and that there are many fine and determined young men and women who are toiling day and night to make it so. I know that you will carry out your mission to guard Israel with the same determination and courage as the Maccabeesfrom long ago. Their strength and dedication is your strength today. Be strong and watch over us.”
