PM Sharon's eulogy of Shlomo Argov and Isser Harel
(23/02/2003)
"This morning, before dawn, Ambassador Shlomo Argov, injured on 3rd June
1982, passed away. Since his injury, he never returned to full
consciousness. I would like to express my grief on Shlomo's death, and
I send condolences to his family."

The Attorney General Eliyakim Rubinstein who had regularly visited the
ambassador, said "I knew him as one of the best in the foreign service,
one of the finest in public service, intelligent, and a great
representative of the State of Israel for many years."

Prime Minister Ariel Sharon sent condolences to the family of Isser
Harel. Isser Harel was one of the founding members of the Israeli
intelligence agency, and was a former head of the Mossad.

"Isser Harel was a member of the Haganah intelligence service. I
remember him from my youth, he was from the area I grew up in, a man
without pretension. He was a man with significant power, but had a
gentle nature, and lived modestly all his life. Whenever he sent
soldiers into dangerous situations, he accompanied them."

Prime Minister Sharon described several special operations led by Isser
Harel, including the operation to capture Adolf Eichmann. "His
contribution to the State of Israel was considerable, and continued for
many years. He passed away at aged 91 and it must be remembered that he
is one of the people who helped to establish what exists here today."
