“Today, Bank of Israel Governor Stanley Fischer, Acting Finance Minister Ehud Olmert and I will present the Cabinet with the principles of the new Bank of Israel Law. In these principles, the Government has adopted the approach taken by all developed countries regarding the status of the central bank in the government. I ascribe great importance to these principles. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who dealt with the issue, especially the Governor, for their fruitful cooperation. The detailed draft law will be submitted by a joint team composed of the Governor, Prime Minister’s Office Director-General Ilan Cohen, and Finance Ministry Director-General Dr. Yossi Bachar according to the principles that we will adopt today.
On behalf of the Government, I want to wish everyone a good and happy New Year and to greet Israel’s Muslim citizens on the occasion of Ramadan.”
