Retired Judge Terkel Convenes the Advisory Committee on Senior Appointments

26/02/2007

The Advisory Committee on Senior Appointments chaired by retired judge Yaacov Terkel held a preliminary meeting this evening  regarding Public Security Minister Avi Dichter’s request that it consider the candidacies of Yaacov Ganot and Benny Kaniak for the posts of Israel Police Commissioner and Israel Prison Service Commissioner, respectively.

Committee members discussed various working procedures and decided – inter alia –as follows:

1. The Committee noted that it had yet to receive from Yaacov Ganot the questionnaire that he had been asked to fill out, despite entreaties from the Cabinet Secretariat.  Therefore, the Committee will not discuss Public Security Minister Dichter’s requests for an opinion regarding the proposed appointments until the questionnaire is received.

2. The Committee discussed its working procedures once the questionnaire will have been received.  The Committee will hear from Public Security Minister Dichter, outgoing Israel Police Commissioner Moshe Karadi, Yaacov Ganot and Benny Kaniak at times to be coordinated.
