Curriculum Vitae - Sara Netanyahu


Sara Netanyahu was born in 1958 in Tivon. She is married to Benjamin Netanyahu and is the mother of Yair, 17, and Avner, 14.  She is the daughter of Chava and Shmuel Ben-Artzi, a poet and writer, and one of Israel's renowned veteran teachers and educators. She is a sister to Matanya, Hagai and Amatzia.

Mrs. Netanyahu serves as a child psychologist at the Jerusalem Municipality Psychological Service.

1974-1977 – supplementary studies as a high school student in the Israel Technological Institute.  She simultaneously engaged in writing, serving as a correspondent for the Ma'ariv Lanoar weekly magazine for Israeli teenagers.

1977-1979 – served as a psychotechnical diagnostician in the IDF Intelligence Unit, responsible for diagnoses and classification of soldiers for officers' courses and elite units.

1979-1984 – studied for her Bachelor's Degree in psychology at the Tel Aviv University.  Her practical assignment included working at the Tel Hashomer hospital rehabilitation unit, and the isolation ward of the Abarbanel hospital in Bat-Yam.  She also worked for Erica Landau as a psychotechnical diagnostician for gifted children, and also served as diagnostician at the Labor Ministry's Center for Professional Rehabilitation.

1984-1985 – while studying for her Master's Degree, she worked as a flight attendant for El Al.  In the framework of her Master's Degree, she engaged in practical work involving individual intervention with children, as well as working with schools. 

1996 – completed her Master's Degree in educational psychology, and wrote a research thesis on testing the psycho-diagnostic credibility of the WISC-R exam.

1996-1999 – during her husband's tenure as Prime Minister, Mrs. Netanyahu engaged in voluntary public activity with a number of bodies and organizations: chairperson of the "Hand in Hand" organization for children in distress and president of the "Step Forward" organization for children with cerebral palsy. Mrs. Netanyahu also helped additional organizations such as Yated, Meital, the Feuerstein Institute for children with cancer, shelters for battered women, and others.
